Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse

Hello!

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 guest OS + Vmware Tools on WinXP host. xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse helps me getting a seamless mouse between guest and host, but there is an annoying issue:

Whenever I press the left or the right mouse button, another "left-click-event" is sent instantly after release of the button.

In the terminal this results in:
normal leftclick -> marks a whole line
normal rightclick -> opens context menu and instantly executed first entry ("open terminal")
press left button, wait -> mark some characters, stay over them... release -> marked characters are in clipboard
press right button, wait -> context menu opens, move around and stay over an arbitrary entry... release -> this entry is executed

In general, it's clear that it's not easy to work with this strange behaviour :-)

Maybe it's even an additional "left-click-event" after each click-event, e.g. after clicking the middle mouse button, too. But I don't know how to test this.

The problem spontaneously appears as "single click taken as double click", and I found another person who experienced it:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse/+bug/248521/comments/58

But, in contrast to him, I had no success by modifying my xorg.conf. I even deleted all Input Devices but it did not help. To get the desired mouse behaviour back, I had to remove xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse. But this is not what I want :-)

I almost have no idea how do debug such input device related stuff. Please request logs/infos you need! I will deliver them asap.

Hi Jan-Philip,

Does this issue still occur with Lucid? If it does, would you mind also attaching your /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
