Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Just yesterday, I decided to switch to ubuntu server to host my game servers. I am a novice to linux but decided to give it a try. Anyway I installed the latest ubuntu 9.04 Server i386. The install was for a IBM eserver 205 I believe. Anyway when I first installed it, I found out their was no GUI, so I decided to install xubuntu-desktop. Install went great, but had second thoughts because I really wanted it to be as fast as possible plus I want the best security. Anyway I went to uninstall xubuntu-desktop and ran into this site "http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=191237". Anyway I ran the command and it really didn't work (the uninstall) so I kept searching and found this "http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purekde" and did the Remove Xubuntu. All went well, and today I went back to college, (the server is at my parents house) I decided to uninstall telnet since I am now using ssh (accessing server through ssh now), so I did the command and when I hit enter I saw all these packages, and it said something like "these are unused packages" or something and told me to do an "apt-get remove" with some auto command and it removed like 204 MB of stuff. So then I'm sitting their and waiting and I notice it hangs on uninstalling Network Manager. So I sit, sit and sit, and finally notice my server went off-line so I decide that I should restart it, so I have my dad (not really computer person) to restart by holding down the power button ....(btw there is no keyboard or monitor hooked up to the server). Anyway the server restarts and I can't ping, or ssh into the server. My router saids its not active so I am lost at this point and wondering if you have any suggestions since I won't be back home for another 2 weeks so....

Thanks
