Bug Description

Release: Ubuntu 9.04
Version: 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1

Problem: I assigned 2 of my mouse buttons to 'rotate cube'. This works most of the time, but sometimes the mouse event gets redirected to the window the cursor is currently over, and 'rotate cube' is not triggered. ( I tested this with `xev| grep button` ). When this happens, the folowing will cause compiz to respond to those mouse buttons again:
    a) Open a new window
    b) Switch to another window
    c) Rotate cube some other way
    d) Hover your mouse over another window so that opacify is triggered

I would expect compiz to always respond to these mouse events.

Ways to reproduce: I have found no specific way. It occurs about once every 15 minutes or something, but depends on how often you rotate.

I am willing to provide any aditional information needed.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

This is happening for me as well. I first noticed it for Ubuntu 9.04 and reported the bug but it got removed because I was unable to reply anything else about it. But alas, I'm now using 9.10 and it's happening again.

I found the easiest way to get it to work again is to mouse over either the top or bottom control panel on your desktop. I also found that I can go straight to one of those panels and use the rotate function as soon as I'm over the panel. Otherwise Compiz continues to ignore me trying to rotate the desktop cube.

It seems to happen after frequent rotations of the cube, but the occurance does seem to be a little random. The amount of times rotated may set it off one time then not the next.

Ok, just want to update.

I've managed to repeat this bug in Ubuntu 9.10 as well as Linux Mint 8.

Took me a while to find how to repeat this but I think I may have finally found it. Using Ctrl+Alt+Left Mouse Button to rotate cube. I can reproduce this bug if I spin the cube in either one of the directions more than 720` (guesstimating) very quickly. Sometimes it won't happen but I've got somewhere between 50-70% repeat rate.

Hope this helps.

The bug seems to have gone away for me, running Lucid at the moment.
