Bug Description

We all know how Ubuntu embarrasses itself by making this hideous noise on various occasions

Annoyed new users want to reach into the PC casing and rip out the PC speaker.

Sure, it can be disabled with one command, BUT first impression really cou*BEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*nts.

This bug is so popular it shows up in sites like: http://lifehacker.com/software/ubuntu/hack-attack-top-10-ubuntu-apps-and-tweaks-195437.php

Why don't we disable this annoying reminder of 1990's by default?

*sigh* This is not a bug at all, and many of us like this feature, some of us do not have speakers.

And just because it appears on Lifehacker as a tweak, does not mean that it is a bug :)

How do you decide if this is a bug or a feature?

It seems most new users do not like this sound, just do not know how to turn it off.

It seems to me a valid bug report.

As I see it it's simple: do people like or dislike rooms full of annoying random beeping all around?

Because this is how many classrooms where people recently switched to linux look like; Also some work offices.

Sure it's "their fault" for not disabling that, but not make life of users easier?
