Bug Description

I've deleted the user created during setup, using another account, with the su command and then running users-admin.
Then, i tried to add a new user with the same username, but users-admin says the user already exists.
I've tried adding the user with the useradd command. This works, but then the terminal doesn't seem properly configured. The terminal problem was the only problem i noticed using useradd.

I'm using Xubuntu 9.04

I forgot to say that i've also moved /home/user to another directory before trying to add the new user with users-admin.
useradd, as i said, worked, but the terminal doesn't seem to be properly configured. It only shows $ instead of user@computer, and, key like up and down don't work. Might it be because i'm using a Portuguese keyboard and language?

Can the terminal problem be can be because i'm using a Portuguese keyboard and language instead of English? The keyboard is old. It doesn't have the Super/Windows key.

Thank you for reporting this issue. According to the help manual for 'users-admin', "The Users Administration Tool allows you add, delete and modify the existing users and groups in your system.". Normally, this tool requires you to log out and log in again for the changes to take effect. Did you try that?

The terminal problem comes from the fact that you're using 'useradd', while normal method on Debian systems is to use 'adduser'.

Though the real issue with users-admin is that in Jaunty we didn't remove user account, and failed silently when the home directory for a new user was already present. Those issues are fixed in Lucid, since we ask to remove home directory, and don't fail if it already exists. Thanks for reporting - you may want to test Lucid and check that this behavior works. Don't hope for a backport of the fix to Jaunty, though, as it required far too many changes.
