Bug Description

In the middle of the installation (flight 6) the installer stops and asks for the screen resolution. 1024, 800, 640 is proposed. The LCD is 1024.

Compaq Presario 701EA with ProSavage KN133 (TwisterK).

I will try something like "DEBUG_XORG_PACKAGE=yes sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg" once I am back at the machine, which is offline. I will also attach a recent Xorg.0.log.

If the installer asks, is because none of the tools to detect the resolution did work OR your hw did not return such information.

So, shouldn't this be fixed _somewhere_? It is not like it is impossible, given the hardware. Some other OS'es are able to detect this ;)

The interesting thing here is that when I run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg" it picks the right resolution without any questions. And I have not updated any packages since the installation.

Also, running "xresprobe savage" (inside X) lists the right resolution:
$ sudo xresprobe savage
id:
res: 1024x768
freq:
disptype: lcd/lvds

Xorg.0.log from running with default (installer-made) configuration.

The regenerated (from dpkg-reconfigure) configuration also included the Synaptics touchpad stuff that was not in the original (from installer) xorg.conf.

I think that an earlier flight did not ask for the resolution, but I will have to go through all the flight installations to confirm this.

FWIW, bug #35755 is another case where xresprobe finds the right installation, but the installer does not.
