Bug Description

After upgrade to 9.04 i had a problem on several websites like geocaching.com or launchpad.net or netbanking.at or gmx.at or my own websites administration page (joomla).

So I tried to install 9.04 new and the problem is still there.
At first I thought it is a networking problem but the other computer in the network (a windows vista with firefox) doesn't have the problem, and also not the windows inside VirtualBox on my ubuntu 9.04 computer.

Debugging is not so easy for me. The thing is that on some pages firefox seems to hang in any 'loading page' loop or something, the messages (bottom left) of the window says loading page and it seems the page is partically loaded but cannot be loaded finished, for some reason. Other Websites work, like visiting a reported bug on launchpad.net works fine, but reporting a bug doesn't work (so i use lynx at the moment).

Please tell me where I can go and what I can do. The problem was allready there after a new install of ubuntu 9.04 from the cd (after updates - didn't try before) installation of sun java plugin and adobe flash plugin didn't make any changes.

Thanks for your help, which is very important here.

Maybe it's not firefox but a gnome bug? I can make the following addition:

evolution has troulbes to connect to a imap mailbox, but from a terminal a telnet to the imap box works. The specific sites - i'm not able to analyse them - like imap could use specific ports which are getting stopped somewhere within gnome. the bash itself and a virtualbox instance can go to this ports, but gnome apps (evolution, firefox) not.

How good is my suggestion? and how can I prove that?

Thanks,
Martin

I am running 9.04 at the moment and i do not have any problems. What extensions do you have installed and what versions of them?
What Firefox version are you using?
full version is needed. to find out please use the following (if you know if its 3.0 or 3.5 or what not.
apt-cache policy firefox-3.0
Also please try with another browser like epiphany-browser.
try running firefox with the following command and try to reproduce it while its running:
firefox --safe-mode

affects: firefox (Ubuntu) → firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)
Changed in firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

I use 9.04. The problem occurs on 3.0 and 3.5 of firefox. And it's the same with safe-mode. So I think it doesn't really come from the browser. It is the same with epiphany (but isn't it the same engine?)

If the problem doesn't come from the browser, i can only find it there. But also the evoution imap problem (cannot connect - time out) is only in evolution, connecting via telnet imapserver 143 works fine.

Any Ideas where to look for?

I forgott the addons question: Seems not to depend on addons, because it allso can be fount when I newly installed (because of this bug, where i work on since a about a month) ubuntu 9.04 from the download desktop image (and after the first updates with updata-manager). So there shouldn't be any addons installed.

Ok, I found a part of my own websites (joomla administration) which is not loaded by firefox, not in firefox-3.1 (9.04), not in firefox 3.5 (9.04) and not in the last firefox of ubuntu 8.10 (inside a VirtualBox instance on the same computer).

Example:

http://www.storpersgard.net/administrator/templates/khepri/images/menu/icon-16-install.png

I'm able to download that file correctly with wget but not with firefox.

why?

Thanks,
Martin
