Gdm/X freezes when activating guest session

Binary package hint: gdm-guest-session

If i try to activate the guest session (via the fast user switcher applet or /usr/share/gdm/guest-session/guest-session-launch) it blacks the screen and starts the guest session with the mouse pointer and the login jingle...

but with a strange artifact:

then, before the jingle finishes, it get stuck, and the mouse pointer disappears (like in the image above), then it goes between black screen and stuck guest session 3/4 times... and stabilizes to the above screen...

i tried with: /usr/share/gdm/guest-session/guest-session-launch >& guestsessionlog

but guestsessionlog contains only:

"OK :20"

this issue appeared with jaunty, intrepid worked fine...

when the guest session is stuck ctrl+alt+f# doesn't work, nor ctrl+alt+backspace (i disabled dontzap)... ctrl+alt+del instead seems to reboot fine...

Which graphics driver are you using? Can you please run "apport-collect 392279" to collect X.org specific debugging information?

I did the apport-collect a second time after logging via ssh after provoking the freeze (the first apport-collect was done in a normal state)

Well, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be retested on latest development version of Karmic to make sure the issue still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/. If you can reproduce it in the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed system. Also please attach a fresh Xorg.0.log and dmesg from this testing.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
