Bug Description

To be clear, Intrepid AS-RELEASED works. It is only when upgrading to the packages in the Network Manager PPA (https://launchpad.net/~network-manager/+archive/ppa) that things fail.

PC: IBM Thinkpad T61p (6457-7WU)
OS: Intrepid w/updates

** Nota Bene: This bug report is NOT about Jaunty

I have a UM-175AL. I already have installed the required usb_modeswitch and udev rules to match, as well as adding the new 0x3715 id to HAL. Everything was working prior to the June 2 update. Upon updating to the June 2 released of NetworkManager (network-manager, network-manager-gnone, ppp), Intrepid ceased to recognize the modem, regardless of whether it was present from boot-up, or hot-plugged. Removing the NetworkManager PPA from apt sources and reverting to the released packages for all three was sufficient to restore functionality.

The nature of the failure was the oft-reported "NetworkManager: <info> (ttyACM0): ignoring due to lack of probed mobile broadband capabilties" problem, which (ironically) other bug reports say that the current NetworkManager PPA is supposed to fix. But in my case, everything was working PRIOR to the update, is broken by the update, and is repaired by reverting to the released packages.

Please note that Jaunty works with 0.7.1:
  network-manager 0.7.1~rc4.1.cf199a964-0ubuntu2
  network-manager-gnome 0.7.1~rc4.1-0ubuntu2
I have *not* tried using the NetworkManager PPA (as yet) with Jaunty.

It *IS* about:
  network-manager - 0.7.1-0ubuntu1~nm1~intrepid2
  network-manager-applet - 0.7.1-0ubuntu1~nm1~intrepid1
  ppp - 2.4.5~git20081126t100229-0ubuntu1~nm1~intrepid1
from the NetwworkManager PPA.
