Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

In Karmic, 2.6.30-10 kernel fully updated does not boot X properly, I can still enter username and password in a black screen and get the startup tune. 2.6.30-9 is perfectly fine.

What seems to be going on here is that the video is being sent to your (phantom) VGA port instead of LVDS.

Are you able to correct it by doing this?

In "Section "Device"" add the line:

      Option "monitor-LVDS" "VGA"

Then add the following new section:

      Section "Monitor"
            Identifier "VGA"
            Option "Ignore" "True"
      EndSection

If that makes the issue go away, then we can request in a kernel quirk for the bug.

Bryce, you might want to close this as I'm unable to reproduce it anymore, I don't hve Karmic and prefer to stick with stable Jaunty until beta.
