Bug Description
I downloaded the x64 alternate install cd for Kubuntu Karmic Koala on 6/22/09
I have a fake raid and a NTFS partition with windows 7.
I knew there were issues with dmraid, the 9.04 installer not supporting it, 8.10 supporting it, etc. I thought I'd give the 9.10 alternate installer a pop.
Initially, everything was fine. The installer correctly identified the raid array and showed me one big 2T disk with one NTSF partition. So far so good. I partitioned the free space and proceeded with the install. Everything went fine. It asked me if I wanted to install GRUB in the MBR. I said yes. It correctly identified that windows was there and said it would add it to the grub menu. So far so good. I remove the CD as indicated, reboot.
And... no grub. I boot directly into windows. No biggie I think, I'm going to repair the install from the CD. I select : repair an existing installation from the CD. It asks me about loading raid drivers etc. I say sure. And then it tells me it failed to find a disk... going into a console, /dev/mapper/ has all of the fakeraids partitions... but the installer won't recover.
I think I'm going to try to install grub from the console, but that's definitely a bug. It's weird because everything went so fine with regards to raid during the install.
