Yahoo issues have been addressed in version 2.5.7 (1):

"In response to the Yahoo server changes, I (quickly) yanked the most important changes for this new authentication scheme and slapped them onto Pidgin 2.5.6. After some testing and some other important bug fixes, we kicked Pidgin 2.5.7 out the door. In theory, upgrading to Pidgin 2.5.7 should make most people's Yahoo problems go away."

For the past few weeks, Pidgin in Jaunty has required changing the pager server repeatedly to connect to YIM, every time the one in use got upgraded. There are no longer any pager servers compatible with 2.5.5, so Pidgin in Jaunty is now useless for YIM (and for me, also MSN, since I have no MSN account, and put MSN contacts in YIM).
