Bug Description

System: Ubuntu 9.04 on LENOVO T61 (Intel CPU and onboard-GPU)
Kernel: 2.6.28-13-generic (now) and 2.6.28-11-generic (before)

What happens: system hibernates without any problem. But mostly (not always) it won't resume but stops after mounting root and swap. On console (without quiet and usplash parameters) the last message is

"suspending console(s) (use no_console_suspend to debug)"

I will try the proposed parameter and add the output from console here soon.

I did a hibernate/resume cycle 5 times now in about 24 hours with the "no_console_suspend" kernel parameter and the problem did NOT occur so far. The parameter seems to solve the problem. Does it couse another one?

I will keep that parameter and report again as soon as resume fails.

The parameter did NOT solve the problem. After another 5 hibernate/resume cycles the system freezed again. There was no error message on console but the above stated. Can someone help me to troubleshoot this?

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest Karmic 9.10 release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If the issue remains, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) while running Karmic. It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux 391497

I have seen this bug twice in the last 24 hours.
I am using ubuntu 10.04 LTS with linux-image-2.6.32-33-generic on Lenovo ThinkCenter m55 8807-DE1 (intel chipset, amd64)

(I switched from 2.6.32-34 back to 2.6.32-33 because with the newer kernel, it would wake immediately from hibernation)

arturj, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Jaunty reached EOL on October 23, 2010.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . However, note you can only test Suspend, not Hibernate, when using a LiveCD. If the issue remains, run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <BUGNUMBER>

Additionally, if you could try to reproduce this with the upstream mainline kernel that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

Has this been fixed or is there a documented workaround? I am still seeing this in 16.04.

Ambrose Li, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with the Ubuntu repository kernel (not mainline/upstream) via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug linux

Please feel free to subscribe me to it.

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on Lenovo Legion Y540, I have configured a swap partition instead of a swap file and I have updated both /etc/fstab and /etc/default/grub files (and run update-initramfs and update-grub).
When I try to hibernate with systemctl hibernate, the system is kinda shutting down, if I try to resume it by pressing the power button, it's like the system is starting from scratch (I can see the Lenovo image and the grub bootloader), then it succesfully restore the image previously swapped but it freezes when "suspending console(s) (use no_console_suspend to debug)".
Kernel is 5.0.0-37-generic .
Please tell me if I can provide more informations to help.
Thank you
