Bug Description

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 on a MacBook 5,1.

The MacBook gets very hot especially in the area around the graphic card. Under intensive use the graphic cards can reach 70+ degrees celsius (at that point I've shut the system down). According to reports

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=969183&page=19

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1185762

the system runs noticably cooler with the version 180.60 of the driver. The heat problem does not occur when compiz is swithed off and when the system is used at low intensity.

I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

Get nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 - 185.18.14 here:

Thanks for posting the update. I'm currently testing the new driver. I've been doing so since you posted the update. It seems to help a bit on the heat problem but it does not cure it totally. The system is still too hot.

I've been testing the driver since my post. My conclusion so far is that the new driver significantly reduces the heat. If you need me to do something specific to test the driver, let me know

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. If you could test the current Ubuntu development version, this would help us a lot. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #>, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

It appears that the package has already been updated. use package name 185.18.36-0ubuntu9.
