Thank you for this bug report. Could you be a little more descriptive about what happened. How were you trying to install this application? Could you explain what steps we can take to reproduce this bug? Thanks.

I received the same bug - right after a fresh jaunty install from the live cd. I installed and upgraded all packages at once including snort. This error is occured and prevents system from finishing the update - I still have to run the update manager. Let me know what additional info is needed I can provide.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 390444

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

This bug was fixed in the package snort - 2.8.4.1-3ubuntu1

---------------
snort (2.8.4.1-3ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Introduce checking on {pgsql|mysql} packages to determine
if database is configured on installation and not attempt
to start if it isn't. Closes (LP: #222091)
