Bug Description

I'm not sure if the broken package is Gringotts or libgringotts1 but the fact is that the application does not work.

It starts up ok and you can create a password protected file with it without a problem. However, when you try to open a .grg file it claims that the password is wrong even when it isn't.

The files are OK. I installed an older version of Gringotts and it works perfectly.

Tested with the x86 packages.

Just want to state that I see the same problem. I wasn't able to open a file I created with an older version (1.2.8 without any patches). I even copied the configuration file of the older version, but it still didn't work.

As I also got several aborts when opening the preferences dialog, I opened bug #39431 for these aborts.

got breezy running on another system. Breezy got nearly the same version of gringotts installed (1.2.8+1.2.9pre1-9ubuntu1). That version works without any problem. Installing 1.2.8-5 on dapper caused the same problems. I wonder whether gringotts itself or any dependent package is causing that error.

The problem is not in gringotts nor in libgringotts1 directly. I downgraded only libmhash2 to version 0.9.1-1 (the one from Breezy) and was able to reopen my files! After updating libmhash2 to 0.9.4a-1 (Dapper Version) the problems reappered.

This doesn't help for bug #39431.

Well I suspect that there really is an incompatibility between libgringotts1 and libmhash2 binaries. I just rebuilt and installed libgringotts1_1.2.1-8_i386 and everything seems to work fine.

Since changing either will work, I think that the libgringotts1 should just be upgraded.

I can confirm this:
I did apt-get update & apt-get upgrade to get to the latest version of all libaries -> not working

apt-get build-dep libgringotts1
apt-get source --compile libgringotts1
dpkg -i libgringotts1_1.2.1-8_i386.deb

to rebuilt libgringotts solved the problem and I was able to access my files as normal. Only the update-manager still wants to update libgringotts1 to version 1.2.1-8. Why?

Severity: critical because it renders package useless

I can confirm this too. Just installed latest version started gringotts and created a grg file.
When I tried to open the file again and entered my password, it says my password is wrong!

Should be fixed with gringotts (1.2.8+1.2.9pre1-13)/libgringotts (1.2.1-9). Please reopen this bug if you still encounter problems.
