Bug Description

Using kubuntu 9.04 with compositing enabled, when pressing ctr+alt+del the shut down dialog shows with a fade in effect.
The fade in is too slow. It should be under a half of second. Currently it takes about three seconds

I am able to confirm this with my current setup, which is Karmic with KDE 4.3 Beta 2. I have searched upstream reports without any luck concerning this issue at this time, however there are similar, yet reversed, issues reported upstream and that this occurs with compositing disabled.

Another thing, and I hate to do this, is it could very well be a video driver issue. I am using the Intel driver on a GM965/GL960 controller, and we know there are still issues with the Intel drivers unfortunately. I will continue checking upstream, but I cannot guarantee this to be a KDE issue just yet.

To be precise: the fade animation takes exactly two seconds. But it does not "delay" the shutdown dialog as the title of this bug reports says. It is just an animation shown when the shutdown dialog is shown.

Making it configurable would be a simple task, but I'm not sure if this needs a config dialog. As I doubt that users know that the fade during logout is done by kwin effects I fear they would not find the config dialog.

Indeed it may be a video card problem.
During those two seconds I cannot hit the turnoff button as it is not visible. All I see during this time is a white box. After the fade efect is done, the box will correctly show the buttons.
I have the an ATI graphic card (hd4300) with ati radeon 9.5 driver.

Is this still an issue with a more recent version of Kubuntu? At any rate, I don't believe this qualifies for a papercut, because even if it is still around, the fix is not obvious and will likely not be easy.
