program freezes when playing music @ watching videos

while listening to music and watching a video, the program stops working, and I must reboot, to continue. Using ubuntu 8.04, using audacious to listen to music on external drive, and watching video on firefox.

Everything freezes, the entire computer. Have to reboot to continue.
Watching flash video, listening to music on audacious, from external
drive. What's up????

Do you have to be both watching videos and listening to music on audacious or with things crash if you only watch videos or only listen to music on audacious? It is important to see which of the two programs are causing the problem, or if the problem only happens when both are running.

Even if I'm just listening to music, it freezes. Audacious quits
working. Once the album is done, or if I stop it, I no longer have any
control of it. I haven't tried watching anymore videos. Audacious shows
as sleeping in system monitor, as do all other applications. Even when I
shut off and restart system, all loaded applications show as sleeping in
system monitor.

Ah, good, so the problem seems to be an issue with audacious. This same bug was reported today here as well: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/audacious/+bug/390131. I see you both are using Ubuntu 8.04, an older version of Ubuntu than the latest version of Ubuntu 9.04 I am running so it is hard for me to confirm the bug. However, the fact that this other individual has had this issue running Hardy leads me to believe this is an issue with audacious in Hardy.

removed rhythmbox from system, and no more problems. The 2 players must interfere with each other. Thanks for your help.
