Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

At the discussion at UDS I brought up the possibility of having salut enabled so that emapthy users can find each other on the local network and have that Just Work. Everyone thought this was a good idea but I am filing a bug anyway so we don't forget.

I don't know the security implications of this but I recall pitti nodding his head so it can't be so bad.

IIRC, Empathy is supposed to automatically create a Salut account but that seems to be broken.

Sort of, this is something I would like to see improved for Lucid. I think currently Salut is enabled by default if you have set your personal information (name, etc) up in evolution or gnome-about-me. Which most people never do, so they have to go into empathy, set it and enable salut. It would be nice if it just worked, we could get user info from what was entered at install time perhaps to populate what GNOME knows about the user.

This is done, and the setup wizard prompts you to add your name for it.
