Bug Description

A quote from "franzbischoff" from the forum:

"I've tested last night at my wife Toshiba laptop (Intel graphic card, Ubuntu Desktop 9.04):

1) started Totem to play a .rmvb file (20min)
2) Totem asked for codecs and installed from repository:
- gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.6.2-1ubuntu2
- gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad 0.10.6.2-1ubuntu2
- gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.6.2-1build1
3) Started to play the file
4) Ended about 2min before the real end"

Also tested on my own machine with an ATI HD 4850 and the same thing happens, it never finishes .rmvb files at the correct time.

Tested on the latest stable ubuntu release with all updates applied.

Updated: Tested also in Asus Z53SV laptop, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, nVidia GeForce 8600M GS 256MB with Ubuntustudio 9.04, it also ends early. Not tested with .avi (xvid, divx) files yet. (Franz)

Thanks for the report, do you get the same behavior if playing the file with: gst-launch playbin uri=file:///path/to/file.rmvb ? could you also reproduce the file with ffplay and see if you get the same behavior? thanks.

Hello

Both "gst-launch playbin uri=file:///path/to/file.rmvb" and "ffplay" play the entire video (I used the same 25min video that bugged at Totem).

gst-launch play fine, ffplay prints a warning message like "invalid codec" (asap I get home I update this information), and seems to play in low FPS rate.

Hello again,

The bug seems to not happen in Totem when you play the video entirely (without pause and rewinds).

Asap I confirm this behaviour I post here again.

PS: I don't know if this could happen in gst-launch and ffplay, because I cannot pause nor rewind videos on them, but I'm sure that in MPlayer (and SMPlayer) it doesn't happen.

Confirmed: This bug just happens in Totem, and happens only when you play a movie and use rewind function. If you play the movie straight forward using just pause, the movie plays entirely.

Seems something is messing the internal time counter when you use rewind.

could you run totem as: GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 GST_DEBUG=*:2 totem 2> log and attach that file to the report? i think it's a gstreamer issue, but want to be sure, thanks again.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Raring Ringtail.
If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.
I've tested same file in both vlc and totem with same result.
