subscribers can't unsubscribe themselves

We've got a client site running S&D 0.8.9 with about 1000 members subscribed to the default channel. Unfortunately we've just be alerted to the fact that members cannot unsubscribe from the default channel. They click the link at the bottom of the email message and get "You aren't subscribed to this channel". I've tested this myself as I'm subscribed to the list. The members are indeed subscribed, but they can't unsubscribe.

We are running S&D 0.8.9, Zope 2.10.6-final, Plone 3.1.7, python 2.4.5 on Debian 5.

We actually have two channels - the other is for testing and only has a few members - unsubscribing seems to work ok on that channel .... weird !

Anybody seen this before ?

Did you find a solution to this issue?

Did you upgrade this install from a previous version of S&D and if so, did you run all upgrade steps?

Can you delete them manually in channel-control-panel?
I could not reproduce this, did you find a solution?
