The "PIXMA" is missing in the database entry. Was this perhaps your problem?

Yes using Canon PIXMA iX5000

I have asked the Gutenprint upstream developers to add this printer in the upcoming 5.2.4 release and they have done so. The new version will soon come out and be packaged for Karmic.
