Bug Description

When closing by pressing the x button, Evolution is shut down. It's annoying because we often check our mail or update the agenda so we always need to launch Evolution again. The alternative is to minimize the window, but it's boring 'cause we get more and more apps in the application bar.
My proposition would be to transform the x button of Evolution like Pidgin => than Evolution would minimize in the tray and could warm us if there is a new mail. If we want to quick acces to our mail or to the agenda, we would just have to click on the envelop in the tray and Evolution would appear very quickly. If the user want to quit the program => files, quit the program.

This would be a great chance to show a user about virtual desktops. The first time a user closes Evolution, a dialog can be presented such as:

Instead of closing Evolution, you may prefer to keep it open to more easily get to your mail. When you click the close button, which of the following actions would you prefer?

Close Evolution
Move it to another virtual desktop (What's a virtual desktop?) [link]
Display an icon in the tray

Change to new mail icon when it checks for new mail at specified intervals - and display notification text with the message count and/or the address of the sender (if only 1 mail received).

Or go the whole hog and make a notifier to tell you (check incredimail for example).

I miss having automated checking of my eMails every 5 or 10 minutes, having this icon in tray would make it possible to add this feature back in too.

This really is not a fix, just a workaround. I use Evolution all the time and it is in my tray right now. The application to do this is called alltray. It can be downloaded by doing 'sudo aptitude install alltray' . Then if you go to applications>acessories>AllTray, it will ask you what application you want to put in the tray. It will also show a OSD message when you get a new message.

As a business user this would be critical for rolling out to more desktops here. I even forget that when I hit 'X' it shuts down. This just doesn't make sense. Why have an alert for new email that doesn't work when I close the application? This really needs to be like Pidgin, Pandora, Rythmbox, etc.
