Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution has no option to make a view stick when changing the date.

For example, I want to have the working week view as default and when clicking a new date in the date chooser, it should just update the view with the new working week instead of resetting to day view.

Currently I have to manually reset the view to working week view every time I change the week, which is annoying.

This is an issue with evolution up to the current version (2.26.1 at the moment)

summary: - [Usability issue] Can't change default calendar view
+ Can't change default calendar view

@Zordid: As I commented in bug #805114, could you please add this comment to the upstream bug at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=589519 where the developers of the software will read it? Thanks in advance.

@Marcel: okay, but there I need a different account, do I? That is really annoying.... :-(
I also wanted to check in Oneiric - but I cannot get it to run in my VirtualBox - when booting it hangs with "udevd[58]: error: runtime directory '/run/udev' not writable, for now falling back to '/dev/.udev'"
That's it - stopping there, nothing to come anymore. Gee....

the message you see is a warning but shouldn't stop the boot, did you try waiting

Tried waiting - for half an hour, did not work. :-( I did it again and did not perform the announced distribution upgrade, then it still works!

Now: Evolution 3.0.2 still HAS the same old bug. Changing the date screws the selected view!

Annoying and I ask myself: does ANYBODY who develops such an application ever use it himself????????????? *grrrrr*

Please, could anybody with a bugzilla account post the upstream bug? I don't want to have millions of accounts all over the world!

Actually, the bug you reported in bug #805114 seems to be fixed in evolution 3.1.2 (the current version in Oneiric): If you are in the work week view and change the month in the little calendar in the left sidebar, the view remains in work week mode. The same is true for the month and the list view, the week view however always switches to the day view.
The OP in this bug report did not mention changing months but selecting a specific day from the calendar -- this still always changes the view into day view. I'll update the upstream bug accordingly.

No, that is not true. I just tested the work week view, clicked change month in the little calendar to the left and ended up in day view!

There's even another strange behavior to see: when you enable week numbers (shown in the little calendar), select work week view and then click on the week numbers, you stay in work week view - that is correct. But clicking next month then (only when week numbers is enabled!!) you end up in the next month, but the shown week (still work week view) is something like Wednesday to Tuesday or Thursday to Wednesday - but NOT Monday through Sunday anymore!
Very, very annoying and wrong behavior!!

Could somebody please just see how Outlook does this? That would be correct behavior!

Did you test using version 3.1.2 in Oneiric? That's the version I
used, you previously mentioned version 3.0.2.

Could you report this as a new bug, please (or better first check
whether it has already been reported)?

This kind of comment does not really help -- in many regards Outlook's
behaviour is far away from "correct" and simply copying Outlook is
certainly not what evolution's developers are trying to achieve.
