Bug Description

When viewing fullscreen videos and changing the volume (with new notification system), the movie disappears, my desktop appears on the screen and, after the notification, the video player returns. That's ugly and unpleasant.

Are you speaking of videos in the Video Player (Totem) or Flash videos in Youtube/Dailymotion ?

Also, I don't think this is a paper cut.

I don't think so either. It's far too complex to solve.

The notification could be disabled when viewing fullscreen videos. Looks
a good solution.

It's possible to avoid the flickering by disabling the compiz option (in
CCSM): Bug Correction > Legacy_Fullscreen

As discussed on the Ayatana mailing list thread, a lot of people
disagree that this is the right behavior, including myself. Much
better would be to use a system presence setting (like you can set for
Pidgin/Empathy/etc in the FUSA) and display them in fullscreen apps as
long as users have themselves listed as "Available"
