Bug Description

I prefer the "tree view" in my Nautilus side pane, but there is one annoyance that has been bugging me for a while now.

When I plug in my USB stick it appears in the tree view under "file system", but there is no unmount icon like in the "places" side pane. When I unmount it through the right-click menu, it simply disappears and I can't remount it unless I switch to the "places" side pane. This is really annoying.

So I think:

- The tree view should include unmounted drives (without the option to browse them of course), and you should be able to mount them with a simple click

- The tree view should include an unmount icon for mounted drives

Can you please make some mockups, showing how it currently looks, and how you think it should look?

This is how it currently looks when the drive is mounted.

Found a duplicate that pinpoints the same issue -- preserving the desktop wallpaper when the original image becomes unavailable.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of this project. This is not trivial to fix, it affects a Nautilus side pane view that is not shown by default, and is arguably an advanced use case.
