Bug Description

it is difficult to resize a window;

you have to navigate the pointer (mouse/trackpad) exactly on a only one pixel wide or high line at the left/right/upper/lower border of the window; on a high-res monitor, this is hard to accomplish

<Alt>+<middle mouse key> works, but not everyone has a mouse with three buttons

some windows (Nautilus) have a resize triangle in the lower right border; this is fine, but most windows don't have this triangle

What is your proposed fix? How can we make this easier?

for metacity, a fix is available, see

https://bugs.launchpad.net/metacity/+bug/160311

another option would be a variant to the "New Wave" Gnome theme, again in

https://bugs.launchpad.net/metacity/+bug/160311

both fixes help, but are not aesthetical

for compiz, I don't know

another option would be to bind <Alt>+<right mouse key> to resize

Just increase the area where the pointer becomes a resize tool. Make it like 5 pixels wide...

From experience using a touch screen, a few pixels wide will not do it. Also, that yummy mouse-over effect you rely on is useless with a touchscreen. I think there should be a key-binding at least to resize. Currently there is a menu option for single-click users already (icon menu in the title bar) so it is not prohibitive, just not intuitive. Maybe a resize title-bar button for a finger-friendly theme ?
