Bug Description

Hi,

if I connect my digital camera to Ubuntu and want to list pictures I usualy start File manager.

I have Icon view as default. Becasue there are hundreds of pictures on card I would like
to change the view to List view or Compact view in order not to wait for hundreds of thumbnails.

But is doesn't work. When I change it from Icon view to List or Compact view, the view is changed
back to Icon.

If you need more info please inform me.
It easy reproducible.

Yes, it is very easy reproducible.

Take a digital camera. Take 600 pictures and connect it via USB to computer.

Than try to read from camera. Ubuntu will try to create thumbnails for all pictures.

Pictures are usually large approximately 5 MB.

If you decide do change the type of view that option will return back to Icon view. It seems that
this change is not detected at all or if it is than after several second (30 or more).

I am using 9.04.

I am not sure about screenshot because this happens very fast.
I will try to find some tool for creating videos from my desktop and I can try it this way.
