Bug Description
Binary package hint: efax-gtk
Hi,
I tried to use Efax-gtk but it freezes the whole computer, when clicking the standby button.
- Hardware: Laptop, HP AMD ZM80, TurionX2 Ultra, 2Gb / 160Gb.
- Software: Ubuntu 9.04.
ScanModem tells that: The HDA card softmodem chip is: 0x11c11040 (I attach the file with the ScanModem data).
I then've installed: dkms-agrsm_
http://
The output of agrsm-test shows that it is detected the following winmodem:
QUOTE:
$ sudo agrsm-test

Modem detection successful
Read wdial.txt
Then edit /etc/wvdial.conf with:
sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf
at the lines beginning with ; and deleting the ; < > "
Then try a dialout with:
sudo wvdial
The installation record has been written to ./agrsm-test.txt
ENDQUOTE:
But, anyway, I can't use the fax in Ubuntu and it freezes the whole OS. I have to restart the laptop (well, to disconnect the power wire and to connect it again, as it has not restart button).
In the modemdata.txt it is shown that: "Currently, the dkms-agrsm code is NOT competent for 2.26.28 and later kernels."
So being quite common the hardware included in the HP laptops (and perhaps other brands of laptops), this means that many (most?) laptops cannot use its fax capabilities with Ubuntu, but have to go back to Windows to send/receive faxes.
I would thank you if there is some workaround for this problem.
Regards,
Victor
