lv names with strange characters don't get picked up by the installer

Bug Description

The installer doesn't mention the limitations on an LV name, nor does it check that the name is ok before trying to create the LV. So it ends up trying to create it and when this fails tells the user to check the other VC to see what happened. It would be better to either not let the user enter strange characters (like punctuation for example) or at least reject the name with an appropriate error before trying to create it.
