I cant use any of the cd burning software

I cant use the cd burning software. I have tried multipal programs gnome baker, basero, xf burn. none of them work. Also when I sut down my computer it always resets the screen resolution, I cant shut pidgion off every thim I am done using it. I was happy with 8.10 but 9.04 is CRAP!!!!! can you help me fix this
