Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

The upgrade did not work at the first time. After I used 'dpkg --configure -a' to restore it firefox stopped working. When I run it I get a small popup with the following text in red inside:

<menupopup id="backForwardMenu"----^

and when firefox never starts. Before upgrade I downloaded and ran firefox-3.5 on a local drive, so I don't know if it might have corrupted any files but I also tried removing .mozilla directory but still no luck.

This is my system information:
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

$ apt-cache policy firefox
firefox:

be sure that you have all the latest (in particular firefox-3.0* and xulrunner-1.9*); then properly log out or reset your system and start firefox. can you still reproduce the problem?

This is the current version:
$ apt-cache policy xulrunner
xulrunner:
  Installed: (none)

  Version table:

How can I upgrade it to 1.9? I tried

$ sudo apt-get upgrade xulrunner

but didn't work.

I haven't done it manually. Would that be the latest upgrade that modified it? Because it was working perfectly fine before that.

Can you run firefox -ProfileManager and create a new profile and let us know if that helps? You don't need to delete any old profiles.

Thanks. We don't need any other information at this time. It was probably just a corrupt upgrade. Since this is the only report we have so far for this problem, it seems like an isolated incident.
Thank you again for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please submit any future bugs you may find.
