When using the trayicons of GTK-applications on KDE, the icon background is corrupted if any popup menu/box is drawn.

Bug Description

If I use any GTK application with a trayicon, after the that icon has produced any sort of popup box (a menu, tooltip, etc) the background of the icon is not redrawn correctly, with the background of the icon instead becoming whatever was drawn on top of it. It remains like this until either the program in question or Plasma itself is restarted. The corruption only occurs for the one icon, not for any others that may be in the tray (irregardless of whether they use the old- or new-style KDE systray spec.)

The bug happens for all GTK trayicons in KDE, so this is apparently a KDE bug.

This happens with KDE 4.3 RC1, as well.

I have dropbox icon, and just copied over some stuff with Konqueror to try and reproduce this and I couldn't. What other GNOME app could I try, preferably one that isn't going to pull in all types of GTK stuff that I do not want, so I can give this another go? Thanks!

It is possible that this has been fixed since the last time I checked. When I reported the bug, the problem was occurring with the Wicd tray icon. I recently switched back to NetworkManager, so I can't effectively test that anymore. Are you using a compositor?

Yes, I am using compositing. I think I know what you are referring to concerning the icon corruption, as it also happened with regular KDE icons in the past as well, especially if another icon went into the tray. I know I haven't witnessed that issue in some time, and I know I didn't witness it when using the GNOME NM Applet a few weeks back when KNetworkManager was a mess.

In the mean time I will close this report as I can't reproduce it and asked others on IRC to give it a shot without any luck either. If you come across this again, please reopen this report and we can go from there. I appreciate your time helping to triage this. Have a great day!

I can still see this bug in any GTK application. Another easy way I found to reproduce it is to launch any application with the "alltray" program.

Even with alltray I couldn't reproduce this issue, however alltray caused about 5 Kernel Oops back-to-back.
