Bug Description

Binary package hint: digikam

I've upgraded Jaunty to KDE4.3 beta 2 from the kubuntu ppa as described on the kubuntu web page, and this seems to have stopped Digikam from working. Although it starts up and scans for images it will not display any thumbnails and seems to think its image database is empty.

apt-cache policy digikam
digikam:
  Installed: 2:0.10.0-1ubuntu3
  Candidate: 2:0.10.0-1ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 2:0.10.0-1ubuntu3 0
        500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

I have deleted the database and configuration and started again, but no change.

This is due to changes in marble. If you look at ~/.xsession-errors you will see an unresolved symbol.

Downgrading just marble packages makes digikam work again, I used

ii libmarble4 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1 Marble globe widget library
ii marble 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1 Marble globe and map widget
ii marble-data 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1 data files for Marble

The problem is described in http://www.csamuel.org/2009/05/23/digikam-problem-with-kde-43-beta-1,

digikam needs to be rebuilt. According to URL above, it is already rebuilt as part of

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/experimental/ubuntu jaunty main

Thanks, I've installed from the ppa as described above and it is now working.

The ppa version doesn't work here. The only way to make it work is using the method described on http://www.csamuel.org/2009/05/23/digikam-problem-with-kde-43-beta-1. Downgrading marble is no option as various other packages would be removed (kdeplasma-addons, plasma-wallpaper-addons).
