Bug Description

Binary package hint: audacity

I have a project file which I saved in audacity. When I try to open up, the tracks are visible, but it is impossible to do anything, as none of the menus, buttons, or manipulation of the tracks causes *any* response. Even clicking exit does nothing. I have to kill it from system monitor. This is only with this one project and all other projects open fine and work great. Opening audacity to a new project also works fine. I have attached the project which audacity seems to choke on. If you need, I can send the data files also.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: audacity 1.3.7-2ubuntu1
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=(custom, no user)
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: audacity
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-3-rt i686

Without the data files I cannot reproduce it. If the data files are not too big, it would be nice if you can append them to this bug report.

I also have a project suffering from this issue. It opens fine in 1.3.5-2 but in 1.3.7-1 it freezes. Unfortunately the data files are over 1 GB so I cannot attach them.

It would be good, if someone would have a small sample project, which causes this bug, too.

I get only a warning (see attached screenshot), but audacity does not crash, nor it is unresponsive.

Well, I restarted and tried opening it again. Once again it freezes. It is not in the classic sense where it stops updating the window, but rather the menus become unavailable (grayed out), as do the playing controls and the actual audio. If you can open it, try deleting a track or opening the file menu, that doesn't work for me. Actually, for me exiting doesn't even work (it won't even pop up the force quit window if you wait, you have to go to the system monitor.)

If it does work for you 100%, then I guess the important thing is figuring out the difference between your configuration and mine.

I removed the hidden ~/.audacity-data folder and therefore I had nearly the default setting.

By removing this folder, it worked perfectly. However, when doing so, I backed it up. Here it is. What is wrong with mine? Is this a bug with audacity?

I tried it with your .audacity-data directory, but audacity did not crash. Can this problem be connected with the temporary files directory?

No, as I still had the problem after restarting.

I will check if replacing the directory with my old one restarts the freezing.

I have the same error... works quitting .audacity-data, shows the warning mencioned before, later i have restored the directory and no problem with the project, later i have opened another project with the same problem... and works

No idea what is happenning...

Note: Even when I replaced the directory with the old one, the freezing did not start again.
