Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

It used to work almost flawlessly, but now does not work at all. I can move the pointer and use the vertical and horizontal scroll perfectly fine, albeit a bit fast, but I prefer it that way.
I cannot click by tapping the touchpad anymore. X debugging info attached via apport.

The kernel used is 2.6.30-8-generic - http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-fix-touchpad-issues-after-karmic-upgrade.html suggests some problems with touchpads are fixed in more recent kernels (2.6.31). Perhaps something to try?
