Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Ubuntu 9.04, MacBook rev E (early 2008)

1. Download <http://people.ubuntu.com/~cjwatson/ubuntu-uploads.ogv>.
2. Open the movie.

What happens: X crashes.
What should happen: The movie should play.

The same problem does not happen for other movies, e.g. <http://video.ubuntu.com/uds/jaunty/notifications.ogv>.

You are using the Intrepid kernel, which does not have GEM. The fake bufmgr which you get instead of GEM is too small to play video. If you want to play video, you will need to use the jaunty kernel.
Can you please boot with the jaunty kernel, 2.6.28-11-generic, and let us know if that works ok?

I had no idea my Ubuntu installation was still using the 2.6.27 kernel after I upgraded to 9.04. I have now started using the 2.6.28 kernel, and the problem no longer occurs. Thanks for the quick diagnosis.
