You are using the Intrepid kernel, which does not have GEM. The fake bufmgr which you get instead of GEM is too small to play video. If you want to play video, you will need to use the jaunty kernel.
Can you please boot with the jaunty kernel, 2.6.28-11-generic, and let us know if that works ok?
