Bug Description
Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop
If you install kubuntu-desktop and you are running xfs (the font server, not the file system) and your xorg.conf file has the "unix:7100" font path in it (which nvidia-settings unfortunately adds for you) then terrible things happen:
* Citrix doesn't work. It fails with error boxes that have no text in them.
* Opera fonts are screwed.
* Everything is slower
* Lots of programs, like firefox and xterm, will die with BadName X_Error messages that appear in .xsession-errors or on the terminal, but which you won't see if you run the from the GUI.
I thought kubuntu was really messed up. All kinds of things were going wrong. It turns out, all you have to do is "aptitude remove xfs". But this is hard to figure out. That evil package should be counter-indicated by kubuntu-desktop.
xfs is not a dependency of kubuntu-desktop. (Otherwise it'd be on the default Kubuntu CD, but it can't since its a universe package) recommends flag or use a graphical package manager that supports installing things without recommends.
It could be that some dependency of kubuntu-desktop is pulling it in as a recommends. If you don't want this to happen, you can apt-get install it with the --no-install-
