I can't read attached gz log file (launchpadlibrarian.net error: 'Content Encoding Error'), could you check it?

But generally this message "Error: selected processor does not support `pld [r1]' " looks like you are trying to build with wrong Arm architecture (ARM PLD is available in ARMv5TE and above).

This 404 because the package was given back. The package actually built now!

See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/mplayer/2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu5

Two things changed recently in Ubuntu karmic:
- we switched to armv7 buildds
- we switched to an armv6 + vfp toolchain

It's likely that this bug still exists in armv5 distros though.

Note that if mplayer uses v7 opts by default when built on v7 hardware then this is another mplayer bug, but this bug is about building mplayer for v5 which isn't required for Ubuntu karmic anymore, so I guess we might as well close it.
