Do you still have this problem with the new version of OOo in the ppa at https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive ? I can't reproduce this problem with OOo 3.1.0 in Karmic and the ppa.

Yes, same problem (ppa). In order to see the problem, you have to close OpenOffice and then reopen the .doc file. When initially doing the "save-as" the graphics still appear. They are missing, however, when you reopen the .doc file.

I am attaching the output from saving the file as a word document with openoffice.org 1:3.1.0-3ubuntu2. As best as I can tell it works fine under Karmic, so I am not sure why it wouldn't work just as well under the ppa version, which has the same code.

Chris:

When I open the document you attached, I can see illustrations 1 and 2, but illustration 3 is missing. Curiously, when I looked at the original converted document, one of the illustrations was still there but it's width had been changed to zero.

I'm going to check tomorrow at work to see if the graphics are actually visible when the document is opened in Microsoft Word.

I'm sorry, you are correct in that illustration 3 disappeared. Thanks for catching that and letting me know.

This appears to be an ooo-build issue, as the official OOo 3.1 and dev300 m49 (OOo 3.2) don't export any of the pictures correctly at all. So ooo-build partially fixed that issue but still has some bug causing illustration 3 not to appear.

Howard Brill, this is unreproducible in LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/384295/+attachment/601904/+files/Rachel%20Brill%20Design%20Improvement%20Project.odt && unoconv --listener && unoconv -f doc Rachel\ Brill\ Design\ Improvement\ Project.odt && lowriter -nologo Rachel\ Brill\ Design\ Improvement\ Project.doc Rachel\ Brill\ Design\ Improvement\ Project.odt

notice how the images are preserved in the .doc and do not look like the one found at:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/384295/+attachment/601905/+files/Rachel%20Brill%20Design%20Improvement%20Project.doc

Does this work for you?

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. This Ubuntu release has reached EOL for Desktops.

Since this bug hasn't been touched in a while and the Incomplete autoclose didn't work, I'm going to close it.

If you can still reproduce on a new version of Ubuntu, please reopen it.
