Bug Description

Binary package hint: casper

casper-snapshot:Do_snapshot() wrongly excludes files matching the pattern '*.wh.*', so files are not persistently deleted.

Using this pattern '.wh..wh*' fixes the issue.

I actually don't understand this at all. Do you have any insight into why casper-snapshot is ignoring whiteout files in the first place? Surely the effect of doing so is to ignore all deletions.

In other words, why should the pattern be adjusted rather than deleted? I'm not necessarily saying it *should* be deleted, since I imagine it was added for a reason and maybe I'm just missing it - but I always prefer to understand the reasons why code was as it was before changing it, as doing otherwise is a sure path to regressions.
