Allow moving the current node when using the Pen tool

Bug Description

It would be nice when using the Pen tool to lay down a bezier path if the current node (the one just created) could be moved around without leaving editing mode. Apparently Illustrator has this capability by holding Space; the handles are locked and the node can be moved around for more precise positioning. When Space is released, you're ready to lay down the next node in the path.

Just to clarify. How it's done in Illustrator is that when you release space after positioning you can continue draging the curve handles. So you can repeat the process many times until you get your exact positioning and curves. But I think that was what you were saying anyway..

Kurt,

Thank you for helping with possible features. In Inkscape you know the single key short cuts right.
ex: press b goes to bezier tool.
      press n for node.
      press p for pen
      press e ellipse.
      etc.

so while drawing b bezi tool change node type n fix with pen click move then press b or p or e or r for rec etc etc.

I hope this helps.

Leo, switching to another tool before the Bézier curve is finished removes it. You must finish your path first.

Space is not available (toggle between the active tool and the selection tool, and back), but this feature would certainly be useful.

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Confirmed

JazzyNico,

I know switching before your done with Bézier removes what you did. Just thought I would add you can change to it quickly is all. Maybe a work around.

Yes a useful extra, but what to use for a trigger?

Leo

The last created node can be moved with the arrow keys [1] without leaving the pen tool context. Proposing to link this report as duplicate to Bug #170890 “scaling/rotating node without leaving pen tool” which requested the same feature (and some more) or close it as 'Fix Released'.
