When select drupal6 for installation it requires you to downgrade mysql-server to version 5.0 (Ubuntu 9.04)

Please take a look at Bug #355142 to see if that better fits the problem you're having, and add as much information as you can there. When installing Drupal 6 from Synaptic, install fails as described above. If I download Drupal 6.14 from Drupal.org and do it manually, no problem.
