I have attached a screen cast showing what happens.

I might add that if I right click on the e-mail and select Move To, it works fine. It is only dragging that is broken.
I use Kubuntu 9.04.
Maybe this is a problem related to GTK programs running in KDE 4?

I am sorry for the poor quality screen cast in GIF. I was trying to record with istanbul, but I could not make it work. I got this error:

Maybe this should be reported as a separate bug?

PS.

To whom it may concern, I got this error from Launchpad when trying to search for this bug:

Timeout error

Our edge server has a lower timeout threshold than launchpad.net, so we can catch those before they hit a wider audience. As a member of the Launchpad Beta Testers team, you're more likely to experience them. If this is blocking your work, you can disable redirection.

Disable redirection for 2 hours

Sorry, something just went wrong in Launchpad.

We’ve recorded what happened, and we’ll fix it as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Trying again in a couple of minutes might work.

I can confirm this problem. I am however using POP (with Local Folders), so it doesn't seem to be limited to IMAP.
However, I only get this problem when starting thunderbird with alltray.
