Could you post the content of /var/log/daemon.log around the time of the upgrade to identify why mysqld is failing to start?

It seems that you're using a non-standard location for your database files. So you'd run into issue with the default apparmor profile for mysqld which only support /var/lib/mysql/ as the location for MySQL data files. Did you update apparmor profile to reflect your custom setup? Is /var/lib/mysql a symlink to /developpement?

Hi Mathias,
Sorry to answer you so late but I was quite occupied this last days.

The path of the new database directory was already in Apparmor configuration (I join the file with this comment). It is also declared in the Mysql configuration file (I will join it in a next comment).
There is a symlink from /var/ib/mysql to /developpement/mysql too in case of.

I don't understand. I realised too that since I am on ubuntu 9.04, when my Computer starts, there is a problem with MySql and Apparmor. I will post it the next time I reboot the computer.

Could you attach the apparmor related audit messages from /var/log/kern.log?
