Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-do

When right-clicking on, for example, the gnome-terminal icon in docky you receive a context list showing all the terminal windows you have open. However, the width of the context menu is far too narrow to show any useful content.

For the terminal example, the user is simply presented with a number of 'user@user-laptop.....' entries, with no way of telling one from the other. Standard gnome-panel, when configured to group windows, correctly displays the entire title of all terminals on the context menu.

This is especially a problem if the user is using a >96 dpi setting for their monitor properties as even less text is visible.

Docky should either have no limit on the width of these menus (dynamically adjusting to fit content), or should dramatically increase the fixed width, or should allow the user to set a preference determining the width.

Sure, here's an example when right clicking on chromium's icon in docky showing truncated titles.

By comparison, the gnome-panel displays the full titles when grouping is enabled and the context menu invoked.

Lol, read your own 'binary package hint' in your bug report. This is a gnome-do bug, not a docky bug!

FYI, Docky is no longer part of Gnome Do. It has been a stand-alone project for several YEARS. You seriously need to upgrade.

Docky is currently released 2.2.0. You are using < 1.0 version, which was previously integrated with Do.

Why did you feel the need for such a rude derogatory comment? If you'd looked carefully you'd have seen that it was originally raised as an issue 'years' ago and was raised against gnome-do. It's hardly my fault, nor is it 'LOL' worthy that it hasn't been looked at in that time.

Perhaps you could do something useful and confirm if docky still fails to satisfy the defect or not?

Why would I do that? This 'defect' doesn't affect me. If it affects you, feel free to file a NEW bug against docky.

@Michael: so it was your fail... why did you assign this bug to docky? You shouldn't change bug data unless you are on one of the projects involved.

docky was seperated from gome-do upstream and in Ubuntu.

Window titles are (still) truncated in version 2.0.2-1 of the Ubuntu "docky" package. In my opinion this is the exact issue discussed here. So my update of the bug meta-data was my way to express the changes and progress of gnome-do/docky.

You may disagree with my way, and even I believe that opening a new ticket or marking docky as "also affected" would have been more explicit, but please stay polite and professional.

However I do not think gnome-do developers will change anything about the behavior and reassigning it to docky could bring it to the attention of the relevant people. Kind of did that :)

If you are of the opinion that there is no problem at all and that it should work that way: I see some some advantages and I am sure you know some more. I am willing to talk about it and surely will accept a "no", but please stay polite and professional.

Let's see a screenshot of this 'problem' in Docky 2.x please. As far as I am concerned, the behavior in 2.x is perfectly fine and as intended.

I agree that because of the reduce font size and the increased width of the menu the issue is no longer that problematic. i can live with it that way.
