Bug Description

According to this page, beagle can use mplayer: http://beaglewiki.org/Optional_prerequisites

Therefore, I think it should recommend or suggest mplayer.

this is not really required as beagle already uses entagged-sharp for extracting metadata of multimedia files which works really good and definitely faster than with mplayer ;)

Hmm... So we don't benefit from mplayer? In that case, this should be closed.

It may be useful for some really weird multimedia formats... but entagged-sharp can ready almost everything so I leave this open and add it in the future maybe

Beagle uses mplayer to extract data from videos (which entagged-sharp did not support until recently, and its not incredibly reliable) And more importantly, mplayer will extract data from certain.. off limits formats , such as asf, and wmv.

It sounds like beagle should move from entagged to taglib-sharp. This will also allow for indexing some video formats, I believe.
Mplayer is not the kind of thing that I want to have pulled in by beagle for this.

With the latest release of beagle, beagle should also recommend totem, as it can use either/or to index video files.

beagle still doesn't have a recommends or suggest for mplayer. Perhaps it was decided elsewhere that it wasn't a good idea after all (that would be my view too). Reopen if I'm wrong.
