Bug Description
I had my PC set to DHCP and then disabled DHCP on my router. On boot my PC obviously could not get an IP.
I right clicked on the networking icon in the top right, and clicked edit connections. Then I selected my Ethernet port and clicked Edit.
On the IPv4 settings tab I:
+ Switched Method to : Manual
+ Entered my IP address, netmask and gateway in the addresses box
+ entered the DNS server
However, the apply button was still greyed out. In order to enable it, I had to click in the "Search Domains" box and press spacebar. This enabled the button. I then pressed backspace and the button stayed active.
Once the apply button was clicked the connection came up. I have experienced no network difficulties since and believe that Search Domains should be an optional part of the configuration, as such it should not prevent the other changes being applied

This appears to me as being fixed in Ubuntu Karmic. Is there any way you could try either with the development release (Karmic) that will be released soon, and confirm that it is working as expected? Thanks.
