Is this from a clean first-time clamav install ? Can you describe the exact stept you took when installing these packages? Did you delete /etc/init.d/clamav-freshclam script manually/by accident before installing/reinstalling the packages?

This is from a re-install.

What I did was, I installed it, then removed it after a day. Tried BitDefenders new scanner and did not like it, so I wanted to go back. Well I did sudo apt-get install and those are the errors that came up.

I completely removed those files you listed after trying:

Re-install again, reboot.

I also got the same error message when installing VirtualBox via apt-get.

Running 9.04 BTW and it is up to date.

I also get it while updating, as it says it will configure clamav clamav-data clamav-freshclam.

This has been resolved.

I decided to purge all clam packages (did not know what that did until i read up on it)

And I also did a aptitude clean and now it works just fine.

That shouldn't be needed, but is a useful hint. Can you give any
additional information on how you might have gotten you clamav packages in
a non-standard condition?

Well I installed KlamAV at the same time.

I dont know if that had anything to do with it, I uninstalled it and clamav at the same time too.

The only other thing I got the error on was updates and when I installed VirtualBox.

Typically this happens as a result of a conffile being manually removed. The purge/reinstall cycle is the correct fix. I don't think there is an actual package bug here.
