Bug Description

Binary package hint: korganizer

I have used korganizer for years. Few months ago, after an upgrade, it converted my old data to "akonadi compatibility resource". Then I started seeing this bug.

On startup, korganizer complains: "Błąd podczas wczytywania Akonadi Compatibility Resource" (Error while reading Akonadi...). Calendar and todo list are empty.

I compared korganizer's files with the backup and was able to pinpoint the part causing the problem - it's in
$HOME/.kde/share/config/kresources/calendar/stdrc - see attached diff. When I restore this file, events and tasks appear again.

Happens: infrequently, once every few weeks. More probable after a system crash / unclean shutdown, but sometimes also happens without an apparent reason.

No information in $HOME/.xsession-errors.

Ubuntu 9.04, KDE 4.2.3 (also happened with 1 or 2 previous
versions).

Hey Igor,

Quite a nasty bug you are experience there. Did you by any chance use a KDE 4.2 pre-release? According to the Akonadi developers the migration should have not been kicked-off in stable 4.2, although it was done in pre-releases to accumulated testing.

Looking forward to hearing back from you :)

That's right, I used pre-release for a few weeks before stable came out.

I can help to test the conversion, I recently switched to Evolution as my production PIM, so I can create, delete and move around files in Kontact without much hassle. What should I do to get more info?

Ok, according to the Akonadi developers you should just need to deactivate the Akonadi compatibility resource and re-activate the KDE resource in systemsettings ->advanced tab -> KDE resources, the KDE resource shouldn't have been deleted by the migration.

If you want you can help us (and the upstream Akonadi developers) improve the migration process though, just give the migration a shot once KDE 4.3.0 is out, and report bugs. We would very much appreciate that :)

I am closing this bug report as invalid since it only appears on pre-4.2.0 installations and can be reverted easily.

Igor, thank you very much for your report, I am hoping that you will give KDEPim another chance and help us mature the new architecture.
Have a nice day :)
